House Hunting

The last thing you want to do when buying a home is to do so unprepared. You want to explore all your new home options and come to a conclusion with the home you really love. If you've never been through the process of finding a new home, we strongly suggest that you follow some of these tips in house hunting:

• Do your homework! Finding the right home for you can be a lot of work, but the internet helps make it easier. Gather information about recent home sale prices, neighborhood statistics, and market trends in your area.
• Make a list of the features you really want in your new home. Bring this list with you to every home you visit so you can check off what each one has or lacks.
• If possible, make multiple visits to the homes that you narrow your search down to. You may see things you didn't notice the first time through and you'll have an overall better vision of the home.
• It may be difficult at the time, but try to think ahead as much as possible. Will your family be growing at all? You don't want to be constantly moving between homes so plan ahead with a house big enough for a full family if you can.
• Remember the old saying "location, location, location" because it really does apply. Think about if the location suits your family, such as is it close to schools? How long is your drive to work? Is the area growing? These are important factors, especially if you plan on ever reselling the home.

Take a camera with you to all of the homes you visit. If you have a digital camera, you'll be able to easily make comparisons of all the homes you visit. This can be very helpful because you might forget the specific details about each home, especially if you visit many of them.
